IGP researchers awarded the innovation prize Hjärnäpplet

Peter Nygren and Joachim Gullbo, together with Rolf Larsson at the Department of Medical Sciences, receive Uppsala University’s prize for outstanding transfer of knowledge, Hjärnäpplet. They are awarded for their successful work towards improved drug treatments against cancer.

The three researchers are co-founders of the company Oncopeptides, which was established to commercialise their research on the substance melflufen. The prize motivation includes: “By innovative, cross-disciplinary research the researchers have made a number of important academic discoveries that have led to close interactions with companies. Their collaboration has also laid the scientific foundation for several new biotech companies that have used Larsson’s and Nygren’s research in clinical trials. These include, besides Oncopeptide AB, also Vivolux AB and Repos Pharma AB.”

The Hjärnäpplet prize consists of a diploma, a sculpture and SEK 50 000, and is conferred in connection with the annual inauguration of professor.
